The results for the final round of the Villmarksliv Photo Competition are out and can be seen here – Resultater, omgang 10/2011. My five entries for this round can be seen at the bottom of this post, with the points awarded.
With this being the last round the total scores have also been published, including the extra points awarded to any gold image/s a competitor may have had during the year. Not surprisingly Kjell Germeten won the overall competition (Photographer of the Year) very comfortably with a margin of 245 points to Robin Jenssen in 2nd place.
Congratulation to Kjell Germeten and his outstanding images.
I finished 3rd overall, which I’m happy with, an improvement over last years 5th place and considering I had one image disallowed; somewhat harshly in my opinion considering what the Jury did allow. But at the end of the day its the Jury’s decision, whether I agree with it or not. I just hope that they are more consistent and/or clearer with Rule No.6 in the future because it can have a big impacted on the final results, as it did last year and this year for a number of competitors.
Unbelievable there was only 1 point separating 2nd to 3rd and 1 point separating 3rd to 4th place – wonder what the probability of that happening is??
So here is how the top ten finished; with their total points, number of counting images in parentheses and number of gold images.
Top Ten (Click here to see the full list - Villmarkslivs NM i Naturfoto 2011)
1 – Kjell Germeten – 1976 (50) – 10 golds
2 – Robin Jenssen – 1722 (50) – 1 gold
3 – Andy Trowbridge – 1721 (49) – 2 golds
4 – Ruben Johnsen – 1720 (50) – 4 golds
5 – Helge Helland – 1709 (50) – 2 golds
6 – Magnar Lien – 1696 (50) – 2 golds
7 – Vegard Lødøen – 1694 (49) – 1 gold
8 – Odd Johan Lundberg – 1689 (50) – 2 golds
9 – Torbjørn R Haagensen – 1656 (49) – 2 golds
10 – Tilman Wischuf – 1565 – (50)
Photo of the Year
We still don’t know who won the ‘Photo of the Year’. All 41 gold images have been marked and ranked but the actual results won’t be know for sometime apparently. However, Terje Sylte’s image ‘Wolf attack‘ must certainly be one of the favourites with a total score of 55.7, which is 0.7 points higher than the winning image from last years competition received. Since it is the only image he entered in the competition this year is rather easy to work out the final score of his gold image. My two gold images combined received a further 14 points, just how those points are split between the two images will be interesting to see, maybe one can make the top ten with a bit of luck.
Personal my three favourite gold images from this years competition are:
1. Kvinandhunn i tørrfuru – Bjørn Aksel Bjerke
2. Minimalistiske pingviner – Kjell Germeten
3. Rådyrbukk – Odd Chr. Knutsen
Interestingly they all come from the last round!!

Wow, I have been slack. Can’t believe its been over a month since my last blog post.
Two rounds of the Villmarksliv Photo Competition have been marked since my last post.
For those who haven’t seen the result, click on the link below.
Also remember to check out the competition blog (http://fotojakta.wordpress.com/) to see all the gold and silver images.
Round 8
Round 8 was a very good round for me, my five images were awarded 1 gold and 4 silvers which makes it my second best scoring (194) round of this years competition. It was a good time for me to have a good round with it being so close between 2nd and 8th place in the overall standings. I moved from 7th to 3rd place after this rounds results but there is very little between 2nd to 8th place – just 30 odd points separating the photographers.
It was also great to get my first gold image of this years competition. I had entered a couple of my red stag images last year and they did OK but not as good as I had hoped so I was unsure if I should enter anymore…I’m glad I did now.
My five images from Round 8 are below.

'Limestone Arch' - Runner-up, Wilderness Landscape, ANZANG 2011
Well I’m very pleased to announce that my image ‘Limestone Arch’ was judge as the Runner-up in the Wilderness Landscape Category in this years ANZANG Nature Photography Competition.
This is the 6th year that I have entered the competition and I’m extremely proud that my work has made it into the ‘year book’ and exhibition every year. I had entered 13 images in this years competition with only one image making it through to the final round of judging, so I was thinking that this might be the first year I would miss out, so I was over the moon when I saw the results today!!
You can view all the Winners and Runner-ups here – Winners 2011 – ANZANG.

Wow the judges have been busy and the results for the the last round have been published – Resultater, omgang 10/10 .
No surprises with who won overall, Ketil Knudsen, congratulation to him. He has lead the competition from Round 1 and had 12 images awarded a gold; more than twice the number of any other competitor. The final points table can be view here – Resultat, NM i naturfoto 2010.
Ketil Olsen won the Nature Photo of the Year with his image of a running snow hare. I really superb image, congratulation to him also.
50 images were awarded a gold image throughout the competition and to see the final rankings of these go here – Resultat, Årets Naturbilde 2010.
I finished 5th overall and my gold images were ranked 15th= and 17th=. Will share a few thoughts about this competition and photo competitions in general in a future post.
Had hoped to have my initial review on the Canon 1D Mark IV finished by now but the weather and getting the flu have prevented me from doing the final bit of testing I was planning on doing. With bit of luck I should have it up in a week or so.

Autumn has well and truly arrived here in Norway; the leaves have changed coloured with most already blown off the trees, the temperature is dropping, the days are getting shorter…winter will be here soon.
Late last week I selected and uploaded my 5 images for the 9th Round of the Villmarksliv Photo Competition. With only two more rounds left in this years competition, I thought it was high-time that I had a summary of the last four rounds.
(Note that results from the first four rounds can be viewed in older blog posts; Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and Round 4.)
Round 5

'Leopard Cleaning' - Highest scoring image of Round 5.
Well after I somewhat disappointing result in the 4th round I was hoping to improve on that result and had a bit of a rethink on the type of images I was entering. However the result was the same; 2 silver (awarded to images scoring 35-44 points) and 3 bronze (awarded to images scoring 25-34). The image above of the Leopard Cleaning received my highest score of the round – 38. I was once again let down by one low scoring image (26). My total for the round was 165.
I like setting myself goals and for this competition I am aiming to score 175+ per round.
All the results and image gallery from this round can be seen here – Resultater, omgang 5/2010.
The overall standing at the halfway point of the competition can be seen here – Overall Standings after 5 Rounds.
Round 6

'New Zealand Falcon in Flight' - Highest scoring image of Round 6 with 38.
Well it was back to the drawing board again for this round. The result however was the same; 2 silver and 3 bronze for a total of 159. My lowest so far in the competition. My 3 bronzes where all low scoring, 29, 28 and 27 which really dragged my score down.
All the results and image gallery from this round can be seen here – Resultater, omgang 6/2010.
Round 7

'Stutfosstjern' - Highest scoring image of Round 7.
After scoring a low mark in the first round of the competition for one of my landscapes I had been reluctant to enter anymore, feeling more comfortable with my wildlife images and the fact that the majority of images entered by other competitors are also wildlife orientated.
But after two not so good rounds I decided that I needed to try something new and entered a landscape image that I had taken locally. This is the image above of a tarn (Stutfosstjern) at sunset and was my highest scoring image of the round with 37. I received two more silvers and two high scoring bronzes for a grand total of 175. A good improvement over the last three rounds of the competition and I was reasonable satisfied with the result.
All the results and image gallery from this round can be seen here – Resultater, omgang 7/2010.
Round 8

'Hold Still' - My second 'gold' image of the competition.
In this round I decided to again enter a landscape image which scored well (37); an image of Lake Matheson (South Island, New Zealand) with mist rising and the Southern Alps in the background.
The image above titled ‘Hold Still’ was my highest scoring image (45) of the round and my second gold image of the competition.
My other images; which were all of birds captured in flight scored 34, 33 and 28 respectively, giving me a total of 177 for the round. A satisfying result but with plenty of room for improvement.
Having viewed many other images entered in the competition I have realised how narrow my photographic vision has become. To take my photography to a higher level I need to broaden my photographic vision, skills and knowledge.
The motivating factor behind me entering photo competitions has always been to help me improve and become a better photographer and to this end, regardless of the end result of this competition, it has already been a success.
The ‘gold’ images from this round can be viewed here – Fotojakta omgang 8, 2010.
Top 8 Photographers after 8 Rounds – Unofficial
So with just two rounds left of this years competition I thought it might be interesting to see how the points table looks. Please remember these totals are unofficial and may not be correct.
Ketil Knudsen continues to lead the competition as he has done since the first round and with 11 images awarded a gold so far he is really in a league all by himself.
1. Ketil Knudsen – 1565 (11 golds)
2. Rolf Selvik – 1485 (5 golds)
3. Leif Rustand – 1437 (5 golds)
4. Andy Trowbridge – 1391 (2 golds)
5. Helge Helland – 1362 (3 golds)
6. Kjartan Trana – 1350 (2 golds)
7. Odd Johan Lundberg – 1346 (1 gold)
8. Rune Karlsen – 1337 (1 gold)
