Update: Villmarksliv Round 3 – 2012

Round 3 Results are out and can been seen here – Resultater, omgang. 3/2012

Unofficial Top Ten photographers after Round 3. ( I apologise in advance for any mistakes)

We have a new leader of the competition Anders Selland with Terje Sylte having only four scoring images this round, he slips back into second place. I also had one image that didn’t score any points this round.

I’m extremely surprised that both mine and Terje’s images didn’t score anything and it is worth noting that mistakes have been made in past years and there is the possibility that this has happened again. So the points table may change.

UPDATE: Well as I had guessed Terje Sylte did indeed have 5 scoring pictures this round (see comments below). However, I’m unsure what this image scored but will update the points table once I know. So Terje is still the overall leader.

As for my non-scoring image, I’m unsure if there was a mistake there also or if in fact the jury scored it under 25 points. I have no ‘inside’ information so will just have to wait and see when the official results get updated to include Terje’s 5th picture.

TABLE UPDATED WITH MISSING POINTS ADDED IN

1. 589 – Terje Sylte
2. 566 – Anders Selland
3. 546 – Andy Trowbridge
4. 545 – Leif Rustand
5. 534 – Kåre Johansen
6. 531 – Erik Toverud
7. 510 – Bernt Østhus
8. 504 – Geir Magne Sætre
9. 478 – Aleksander Myklebust
10. 478 – Kai Edvard Rønning

7 Weeks in New Zealand – Part 4

Well I’m back from 4 days in the forest with not a lot to show for my efforts. Activity on my capercaillie lek is variable at the moment. I had one day of high activity (although no photo opportunities) followed by two days of almost no activity at all. Hopefully things will get better next weekend.

Anyhow as promised here is Part 4 of my New Zealand trip.

During the 4th week I set off on my second ‘photographic’ mission. The basic plan was to head south to meet up and stay with long time friend and fellow photographer Ross Curtis, catch up with him and his family and set off on some photo missions together when he had the time.

We covered a fair bit of ground during my stay and I took a lot of photos, far to many to share here and I’m still in the process of going through them but here are a few of my favourites so far…processed pretty quick and dirty…remember to click on the image to see a larger sharper version.

Called into the see the Crested Grebes again on my way down south.

7 Weeks in New Zealand – Part 3

So week 3 on my New Zealand trip was over the Christams period and as such much of my time was spent with family. However I did get out for a few days fishing with long time friend and fishing buddy, Dave Tasker. Unfortunately the fishing wasn’t that great for the first two days but on the third, when brother-in-law Chris joined us, we had much better success with 6 brown trout landed and released between us. Chris (the beginner) catching 3 of them and the first brown trout of his short fishing career.

Sister Emma and little niece Evie opening her first Chritmas presents :)

7 Weeks in New Zealand – Part 2

My second week in New Zealand was split between a trip down south to the Tekapo/Mt Cook area and a fly fishing trip with my father and brother-in-law from England.

MOUNT COOK/TEKAPO

Meet up with my long time friend and photographer Ross Curtis (Kea Images) for this trip. Our plan was to hopefully photograph Mt. Cook/Aoraki (New Zealand’s highest mountain at 3754 metres) from various vantage points and if time permitted to also photograph some Australasia Crested Grebes on a nearby lake.

However the weather forecast wasn’t looking great for seeing Mt. Cook and over the three days we only saw the top of it briefly for about 30 minutes.

Mt. Cook and the Hooker Valley during a short clearance in the weather. This was the best view we got of the mountain during our three days.

Happy New Year!! Now back to the processing.

A very late Happy New Year to everyone!!

Had a good break over the holiday period, spending 10 days with my sister and her husband in London. It was good not only to get away but also to get away from the computer and the never ending folders of images to be processed. I was starting to see dust spot everywhere I looked!!

I did take my camera with me to London but apart from a few hours at Richmond Park on Christmas Day (shooting a few frames of red and fallow deer) I decided to just to relax and forget about photography altogether. It was actually really great just to completely relax, eat and have few drinks. At times maybe a bit too much to eat and a few too many drinks;).

But it had to end and once we got back home it was back to business and processing images.

So to start the New Year off here are a few of the latest images that I have finished. They are from a very cold and windy morning spent in a pretty beautiful place; Key Summit on the Routeburn Track, New Zealand.

It’s about a 45-60 minute walk from the car park to the tarns on Key Summit, which I did in the dark, well before sunrise so that I had some time to scout around and look for promising compositions. It was my first time at this location.

I stayed up there until mid-morning and it was interesting to watch and see how the the light changed on the landscape over the 6 hours or so that I was up there. Hopefully that has been illustrated in this series of images.
